Get ready to tip your hat and strap on your snow boots because the is saddling up on January 20, 2025, and it's going to be one wild ride. Imagine this: a bunch of rodeo cowboys on skis, whipping around a slalom course that's as bumpy as a bull ride. This legendary event kicked off half a century ago thanks to the brainchild of Billy Kidd, Steamboat's skiing wizard, and Larry Mahan, a six-time World Champion cowboy with a knack for adventure. And now, here we are, celebrating a tradition that gets over 100 professional rodeo cowpokes to trade their lassos for ski poles and tackle some serious downhill action.

Things get underway around 1 p.m., and if you thought skiing was just about speed, think again. These cowboys will be hitting jumps, attempting to lasso imaginary cattle, and somehow trying to saddle up before they cross the finish line. It all wraps up in the notorious Stampede Event, which is basically like a rodeo but with a lot more snow and chaos. The cowpoke who can ski their way to victory ends up being the talk of the town, while the rest of us just stand around sipping hot cocoa, wondering when we can sign up for a ride on a horse… or maybe just a chairlift.
