Vance Kirkland, a prominent painter from Colorado and the namesake of Kirkland Museum, created a series of paintings during the latter half of his career that depicted his own imagined universe. He began with Nebulae Abstractions in 1954-1964 and continued to expand his universe in subsequent series, leading up to his colorful Dot Paintings. This exhibition showcases Kirkland's various series of outer space paintings, with each one traveling further out from the previous. The exhibition concludes with his final series, Energy of Forms in Space, which he was working on before his death in 1981. Kirkland's works offer a glimpse into his creative mind and his fascination with the cosmos.
